                             Our History

On the very day I moved to Lawrence, Kansas, I met a woman who was soon to be one of my dearest friends, and one of the most influential people in my life! She had lived for a while on the island of Kawai, Hawaii where she learned to blend soaps. At the time I was studying aromatherapy and had begun experimenting with essential oils. We often made soaps together for fun. Over the years we began selling our products at fairs and gradually Healing Moon grew into a small business providing fabulous body care products for several retail locations as well.

Many people have been involved in this ever-evolving creative process. A wonderful graphic designer friend of mine, worked with me over dinner for many months designing our product labels. Friends have built soap boxes for us, and others have come up with many amazing ideas to improve our efficiency.

One of my assistants had previously studied art in Italy. During this time, he learned to blend paints from raw pigments. This skill carried right over into the soapmaking process and with his guidance we were able to achieve even more gorgeous soaps, still using only pure and natural botanicals and minerals for color.

On many levels it has been a community affair!

The mints used in our Peppermint & Oatmeal soap, and the rose buds used in the Lavender & Rose Flower soap, are harvested from my own backyard. For the past several years, the neighborhood community garden has been providing us with lavender flowers for our Tea Tree & Lavender soap.

Today Healing Moon is based out of 2 locations; my home state of New York, and my home away from home, in Lawrence Kansas.

What started as a hobby has flourished into a thriving business. Though it's still a fun way to spend time…
